RMIT Admissions Team,

I wanted to provide some context and make an argument for my entry into the Online Graduate Certificate in Marketing program, as I appreciate my Bachelor was completed over 10 years ago.

Since around 2012, I’ve run my own sole trader business, exposing me to the basics of marketing directly. I’ve conducted research about where and how to find clients, ways of reaching out to them, and how to maintain positive client relationships and win referrals. I’ve learned about SEO, promoted Adwords campaigns, and created print campaigns, teaching me to monitor results and learn about consumer behaviour on a small scale. The work produced through winning these clients can be seen on this website. And because my in-house photographer roles were always within the context of a marketing team, my image-making was always within the context of marketing: what audience is this for, how does it fit within the company’s marketing strategy, and how does this photography campaign benefit the overall marketing goals of the company.

I see the Graduate Cert program as being the natural extension of the exposure to marketing I’ve had over my career. I feel that it’s time to pivot more directly into the planning and analytical side of marketing. I see myself either as growing into a content creator or social media manager role, with the combined experience and skills of both photo and video production and marketing knowledge, or moving more firmly into a managerial role. Depending on future work demands, I see this as a pathway to possibly studying a Masters of Marketing, or additional courses in Online Marketing.

The thought of being able to study marketing excites and motivates me. Marketing is a unique combination of business, economics and human psychology, and I know I have tremendous potential that RMIT can help me reach.

Thank you for your consideration,

Daniel
