hit-the-floor-together

I was recently given the opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes at a rehearsal for Hit the Floor Together, an upcoming dance performance at the Canberra Theatre Centre. The contemporary work brings together young indigenous and non-indigenous dancers to explore young people’s understanding of each other, despite differences in culture and geography.

The idea was initiated by Bangarra dancer Daniel Riley McKinley. It was fascinating to watch McKinley’s mind slowly ticking over as he carefully refined the choreography. The dedication and talent of the young dancers was also very clear.¬†I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty jealous. I myself do hip hop dance. And by “do” I mean, you know… flail around wildly…

The show runs from the 31st of July to the 3rd of August. You can find more information or buy tickets on the Hit the Floor Together website. I sure will be!
